- He should not be confused with the later Sophronios II of Cyprus or Sophronios III of Cyprus.
Our father among the saints Sophronius or Sophronios, Archbishop of Cyprus, was born into a Christian family on Cyprus. His memory is commemorated on December 9.
He lived in the 6th Century. He studied many sciences, but most of all he devoted himself to the reading of Holy Scriptures. He became so accomplished in piety and good works, that he was granted the gift of wonderworking by the Lord. Following the death of St Damian, bishop of Cyprus, St Sophronius was chosen to replace him. As bishop, he proved himself a true father to his flock.
