Michael (Shaheen) of Toledo
His Eminence Archbishop Michael (Shaheen) of Toledo was the ruling bishop of the Antiochian Archdiocese of Toledo, Ohio from 1962 until 1975. The Toledo archdiocese was formed during the formation period of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America as it gained its independence from the Russian Orthodox Mission (Metropolia) during the 1930s. Metr. Michael became the Auxiliary-Archbishop of the unified Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America in 1975.
Life
Fr. Michael Shaheen was consecrated bishop of the Church of Antioch on February 11, 1962 in Damascus, Syria to lead the “Toledo” group.
On June 24, 1975, Metropolitan Michael signed the Articles of Reunification with Metr. Philip of New York, forming a united Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America. With the ratification of the Articles by the Holy Synod of the Church of Antioch on August 19, 1975, Abp.. Michael was recognized as Auxiliary-Archbishop with Metr. Philip as Metropolitan-Primate.
Abp. Michael reposed on October 24, 1992.
