Cosmas II of Alexandria was patriarch for three periods, first as Patriarch of the Church of Alexandria from 1712 to 1714, then Patriarch of the Church of Constantinople, as Cosmas III, from 1714 to 1716, and then again as Patriarch of the Church of Alexandria from 1723 to 1736.

Life

Little is known of Patr. Cosmas' early life including the date of his birth and activities either in Alexandria or Constantinople.

Patriarch Cosmas was installed the first time as patriarch of Alexandria in January/February, 1712 and served until 1714 when he was install as Patriarch of Constantinople. There, he served until 1716. He was installed a second time as patriarch of Alexandria on September 23, 1723. Patr. Cosmas reposed in 1736.

He is not to be confused with a Coptic Orthodox patriarch who has the same name: Pope Cosmas II of Alexandria (Coptic) reigned from 851 to 858.
