His Grace Bishop Anthimos (Drakonakis) of Olympus was a bishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America who had been the subject of controversy and was thereafter assigned in retirement to the Diocese of Olympus of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Life
Bishop Anthimos was born in 1934 on the island of Crete and took a vow of celibacy in 1956. He was elected bishop on April 16, 1977.
During the years 1977 to 1979, he was the bishop of the Sixth District (Pittsburgh) of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America.
In 1979, he was enthroned as Bishop of the Diocese of Boston.
In 1983, Bp. Anthimos was transferred to and enthroned as the first bishop the Diocese of Denver. In 1987, he was detached as Bishop of Denver without further assignment.
On July 13, 1992, Bp. Anthimos was returned to active service by the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
He was assigned in retirement in America to the Diocese of Olympus of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He reposed in the Lord on May 29, 2015.
