Life
Little is known of the life of Patriarch Sylvester. He was from the island of Crete and was patriarch during a period that the Church of Alexandria prospered. A friend of St. Ignatius of Methymna, he traveled to the island of Lesbos in 1575, after the saint's repose, and caused the relics of Ignatius be uncovered revealing myrrh and an aroma from the grave and bones which was another sign of St. Ignatius' Holiness.
