His Eminence Theophylactos (Papathanasopoulos) was the Metropolitan of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Australia and New Zealand from 1947 to 1958.
Before his consecration, Archimandrite Theophylactos was the parish priest of the Greek Orthodox church in Melbourne. He was elected to Metropolitan on April 22, 1947.
His reign was tragically cut short, however, by a car crash on August 2, 1958. To date, he is the only Greek Orthodox bishop to be buried in Australasia.
