His Eminence Proterios (Pavlopoulos) of Diospolis is a retired hierarch of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.
Life
Stylianos Pavlopoulos was born in 1946 in Koronos, Naxos. His collegiate level education was at the Higher Faculty of the University of Athens. His post graduate education continued at Durham University in England.
Stylianos was ordained deacon and priest in 1972, by His Eminence Methodios of Aksum. Over the following years Fr. Proterios served in a number of countries including Ethiopia, Malta, Great Britain, South Africa, and Greece in various positions including chancellor and hierarchal vicar.
He was elected, on February 22, 2001, Archbishop of the new Archdiocese of Dar Es Salaam in eastern Tanzania by the Holy Synod. He was consecrated on March 3, 2001. On October 27, 2004 to the see of Archbishop of Ptolemais. On November 26, 2014, His Eminence retired from active service, being appointed titular Archbishop of Diospolis.
