Emmanuel (Kiagias) of Ptolemais

His Eminence, the Most Reverend Emmanuel (Kiagias) of Khartoum and Sudan is Metropolitan of the Archdiocese of Khartoum and All Sudan and Exarch of All Sudan, part of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.

Life

Xenophon Kiagias was born in 1956 in Athens, Greece. He studied at the University of Athens and was granted a degree in Theology. He was ordained deacon and priest by the Elder Metropolitan Petros of Aksum. Fr. Xenophon served initially as a deacon in Cairo, then in Addis Ababa in the Metropolis of Aksum as a priest. Later, he served in the Metropolis of Peristeri for seventeen years.

Fr Emmanuel was elected by the Holy Synod of the Church of Alexandria to be Bishop of Babylon (Old Cairo) and was appointed Hegumen of the Monastery of St. George in Old Cairo on October 27, 2004. His consecration at the Church of Ss Constantine and Helen in Cairo was by Metropolitan Petros. On November 1, 2004, Bp. Emmanuel was elected Metropolitan of Khartoum and All Sudan.
