Anthimos (Roussas) of Thessalonica
His Eminence, Anthimos (Roussas) of Thessalonica is the Metropolitan of Thessalonica, leading the New Lands metropolis that is under the jurisdiction of the Church of Constantinople but administered, under agreement with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, by the Church of Greece.
Life
Dionysios Roussas was born in 1934 in Salmoni of Pyrgos Hlias in the western part of Peloponnese peninsula of Greece. He is a graduate of the Philosophical and Theological Faculties of the University of Athens. After completing his university studies, he taught high school. In 1964, he entered the Holy Orders of the Orthodox Church when he was ordained a deacon with the name Anthimos. During the following year, 1965, he was ordained a priest.
As a member of the clergy, Fr. Anthimos was appointed the priest in charge of the Church of St. Basil in Athens. He also has been an active writer, publishing many articles as well as producing the leaflet "The Lord's Voice" from 1965 to 1972. Fr. Anthimos was secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece and the Director of the Theological Boarding House of the Apostolic Diakonia.
Fr. Anthimos was consecrated to the episcopacy on July 13, 1974. On April 26, 2004, Fr. Anthimos was elected Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Thessalonica in northern Greece.
