His Grace Timothy (secular name Michael Negrepontis[1]; 7 June 1924 - 13 December 1998[2], Μιχαήλ Νεγρεπόντης) was a bishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America, who served as Bishop of Detroit until his retirement in 1995.

Life

He was born in 7 June 1924 in Athens, he studied theology at the Theological Faculty of the University of Thessaloniki.

He ordained Deacon on March 7, 1950 and a priest on March 10, 1952.

Bishop Timothy (Negrepontis) was consecrated on January 20, 1974 at the Holy Cross Chapel of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts as Bishop of Pamphilos and auxiliary bishop to Archbishop Iakovos of America. He was assigned to lead the Diocese of South America that had its headquarters in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In 1978, Bp. Timothy was appointed to succeed Bp. Iakovos (Garmatis) as Bishop of the Seventh District of Detroit in the United States of America. 15 March 1979 after the re-designation of districts as diocese, he was enthroned as Bishop of the Diocese of Detroit.

1 August 1995, Bishop Timothy was retired and return to Greece[3].

On December 11, 1998, Bp. Timothy died in an Athens hospital following complications from asthma at 74 years old.

The funeral service was chanted on December 15, 1998 at the Church of the Assumption Kaisarianis presided over by Metropolitan New Smyrna Agathangelos. He was buried on December 15, 1998 in Kaisieriani Cemetery after.
