His All Holiness Callinicus III of Constantinople was Patriarch of the Church of Constantinople in the early eighteenth century and has the distinction of being patriarch for less than a day.
Little is known of the life of Callinicus. He is reputed to have used any means to become patriarch, including trying unsuccessfully many times to seize the throne. His elated reaction on hearing that he had actually been elected patriarch brought on a heart attack that ended his term as patriarch to less than a day from his election, on November 19, 1726.[1]
