His All Holiness Matthew I of Constantinople was the Patriarch of Constantinople from 1397 to 1410. Little is known of the life of Patr. Matthew. When St. Cyprian, Metropolitan of Moscow and all Russia, died in 1397, Patr. Matthew initially appointed Photius to replace him with the title of Metropolitan of Kiev and Vladimir with his see in Kiev. Photius' title was subsequently changed to Metropolitan of Moscow and all Russia when he moved his see to Moscow.
