Panteleimon (Karanikolas) of Corinth
His Eminence Panteleimon (Karanikolas) of Corinth, Sikyon, Zemenou, Tarsus and Polyfengous was the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Corinth, Sikyon, Zemenou, Tarsus and Polyfengous under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece from 1965 to 2006.
Life
Metropolitan Panteleimon (Karanikolas) was born in 1919 in Kranidi, Ermionida in the eastern part of the Peloponnese, Greece. After he had completed his theological education in Greece, he continued his studies in Great Britain. During German occupation of Greece during World War II, he was actively involved in the Greek resistance.
After his entry into the Holy Orders Father Panteleimon was elected to the episcopate in 1958 as an auxiliary bishop. In 1965, he was elected by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece as Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Corinth.
Metr. Panteleimon authored a number of books. In 1990, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate degree by the Faculty of Theology of the University of Athens. Metr. Panteleimon reposed on August 16, 2006.
