Joannicius of Alexandria
His Beatitude Joannicius of Alexandria, also Ioannikios, was the Patriarch of the Church of Alexandria from 1645 to 1657.
Life
As Patr. Joannicius succeeded to the cathedra of Alexandria, the tensions with Church of Constantinople continued concerning granting to hierarchs of the Church of Sinai permission to perform religious services at the Sinai Dependency in Cairo. However, during his tenure as patriarch the dispute finally ended when Sultan Mohammed IV intervened, supporting the monastics of Sinai.
Patr. Ioannikios reposed on September 15, 1657, a victim of the plague.
