Bright Week is the first week following the Resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ celebrated as the Holy and Glorious Pascha and continue all week until the following Sunday, the Sunday of Thomas. For the Orthodox Christians Bright Week is the first week of the period of celebration that continues for fifty days until Pentecost.
With Bright Week the faithful begin the period to Pentecost of joyously greeting each other with the salutation of Christ is Risen and the response of Indeed He is Risen as the whole of creation is renewed by Our Lord and Savior. The services of Bright Week are done with the Royal Doors fully open as the altar symbolize’s the open door of Christ’s empty tomb.
