His Eminence Archbishop Agapit (Gorachek) was bishop of Stuttgart, Germany, vicar for the administration of the diocese of Germany of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

Life

Alexander Gorachek, the future bishop, was born in Germany on September 29, 1955. He completed his schooling in Franfurt-am-Main and then studied at the department of architecture in Darmstadt. In 1979 he entered the brotherhood of St Job of Pochaev in Munich. He was tonsured a monk on March 29, 1983. On December 25, 1983 he was ordained hierodeacon and on April 8, 1991 hieromonk. In 1995 he was elevated to the rank of hegumen.

In October 2000, the Synod of Bishops approved the consecration of Hegumen Agapit to the episcopate. The consecration took place on April 30, 2001 at the Cathedral of the Holy New-Martyrs and Confessors of Russia located in Munich, Germany. The consecration was performed by Archbishop Laurus of Syracuse and Holy Trinity, Archbishop Mark of Berlin, Germany and Great Britain, Archbishop Hilarion of Sydney, Bishop Eutychus of Ishim and Siberia, and Bishop Ambrose of Geneva.

Besides his duties as vicar of the German diocese, Bishop Agapit served as vicar to Bishop Ambrose as the administrator for ROCOR parishes in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg until 2006.

On May 28, 2020 Archbishop Agapit reposed.
