Cyril (Kogerakis) of Rhodes
His Eminence Cyril (Kogerakis) of Rhodes is the metropolitan of the Metropolis of Rhodes, under the jurisdiction of the Church of Constantinople, since 2004.
Life
Constantine Kogerakis was born on July 2, 1964 in Koumasa Monofatsiou, now part of the municipality of Gortyn in the prefecture of Heraklion on the island of Crete. He completed his education through secondary school in Heraklion. Constantine began his post secondary education with studies in theology at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens. After graduating, he pursed postgraduate studies in the field of Operations at the Theological School of Aristotle University of Thessalonica. With funding under a scholarship from the Foundation Pro Oriente, Constantine continued with studies in Catholic Theology at the Theological Faculty of the University of Graz in Graz, Austria.
On February 17,1991, Constantine was tonsured a monk with the name Cyril at Agarathos Monastery on Crete by the abbot Yennádhion Stavroulakis. Then, on February 23, 1991, the Mnk. Cyril was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Timothy of Crete. He served from 1991 to 1995 as archdeacon of Austria for Metropolitan Michael. On August 16, 1995, Dcn. Cyril was ordained a priest by Abp. Timothy and also elevated to the dignity of archimandrite.
On April 20, 2004, Archim. Cyril was elected to the episcopate by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate as the metropolitan of the Metropolis of Rhodes. He was consecrated on April 25, 2004 at the Patriarchal Monastery Life Giving Spring Valoukli by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. Metr. Cyril was enthroned as Metropolitan of Rhodes on June 5, 2004 by Patr. Bartholomew and Metr. Theoliptos of Konya.
