Barnabas (Tyris) of Neapolis
His Eminence Barnabas (Tyris) of Neapolis and Stavroupolis is the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Neapolis and Stavroupolis under the administration of the Church of Greece. The Metropolis of Neapolis and Stavroupolis is a metropolis in the New Lands of Greece, under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. [1]. Metr. Barnabas has been the ruling hierarch of the metropolis since 2004.
Life
Mark Tyris was born in Diavata near Thessalonica, Greece in 1958. He attended the Tertiary level Ecclesiastical School of Lamia, before studying at and graduating from the Pedagogical Academy and the Theological School of Aristotle University of Thessalonica.
In 1984, Mark was tonsured a monk with the name Barnabas and was ordained a deacon. Later in 1984, he was ordained a priest. Raised to the dignity of archimandrite, Father Barnabas served as Vicar General and Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis of Neapolis and Stavroupolis. Also, in 1989, he was the head of the Office of the Thessalonica Central Finance Office of the Church of Greece.
On October 6, 2004, Fr. Barnabas was elected to the see of the Metropolis of Neapolis and Stavroupolis and was consecrated the metropolitan of the metropolis on October 10, 2004 in the Cathedral of Athens. He was enthroned on November 7, 2004 in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Neapolis.
