In October 2000, the Synod of Bishops approved the consecration of Hegumen Agapit to the episcopate. The consecration took place on April 30, 2001 at the Cathedral of the Holy New-Martyrs and Confessors of Russia located in Munich, Germany. The consecration was performed by Archbishop Laurus of Syracuse and Holy Trinity, Archbishop Mark of Berlin, Germany and Great Britain, Archbishop Hilarion of Sydney, Bishop Eutychus of Ishim and Siberia, and Bishop Ambrose of Geneva.

Besides his duties as vicar of the German diocese, Bishop Agapit served as vicar to Bishop Ambrose as the administrator for ROCOR parishes in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg until 2006.

On May 28, 2020 Archbishop Agapit reposed.
