Christology, from Christ plus logia (Greek: λογία), is the field of study within Christian Theology that is concerned primarily with the nature and person of Jesus Christ, that is who he was, the incarnation, and the major events of his life including his birth, death, and resurrection. Among the considerations is the relationship of the nature and person of Jesus Christ with that of God. As such, Christology is thus concerned with the details of the life Jesus, that is what he did, and what he said in his teachings, in order to come to a clearer understanding of who he is in his person and his role in salvation.

Christology has been the center of controversies since the founding of Christ's Church and many councils in attempts to reconcile differing viewpoints. The inability of the Church to reconcile many of these views concerning Christ has resulted in declarations of heresy and schism within his Church.
