Callinicos (Demenopoulos) of Paronaxia

His Eminence Callinicos (Demenopoulos) of Paronaxia is the metropolitan of the Metropolis of Paronaxia under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece. The metropolis is located within the Cyclades island group in the Aegean Sea. Metr. Callinicos has been metropolitan since 2008.

Life

Nicholas Callinicos was born in 1959 in Athens, Greece, to parents who were from the island of Naxos of the Cyclades island group in the Aegean Sea. After he had completed his basic education, Nicholas entered the theology school at the University of Athens, from which he graduated after also completing graduate studies in canon law. He then served his military service obligation.

After returning to civil life, Nicholas was appointed professor of theology at the Arsakeio School in Psychico. In 1986, he entered the Holy Orders when he was ordained deacon with the name Callinicos. He was ordained a priest in 1989 by Bishop Ierotheos of Hydra. Father Callinicos then served as a preacher and head of the youth of the Metropolises of Hydra, Spetses and Aegina, New Smyrna, and Paronaxia as well as serving as vicar of Aegina. For ten years of this period Fr. Callinicos also served as the secretariat of the Holy Synod.

On June 24, 2008, Fr. Callinicos was elected to the episcopate by the Synod of Bishops. He was consecrated Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Paronaxia on June 30, 2008.
