Parthenius I of Alexandria
His Beatitude Parthenius I of Alexandria was the Patriarch of the Church of Alexandria from 1678 to 1688.
Life
Little is known of the early life of Patriarch Parthenius. Prior to his election to the Patriarchate of Alexandria, he was Metropolitan of Nazareth under the name Prochorus. Patr. Parthenius was elected to the throne of Alexandria following the resignation of Patr. Paisius of Alexandria in 1678.
At the insistence of the Arab governors of Egypt, Patr. Parthenius traveled to Moldavia and Vlachia to collect funds. In 1688, he was seriously injured in an earthquake and died on June 30, 1688 in Smyrna in Asia Minor.
