Laurence I of Kazan

His Eminence Laurence I of Kazan, also Lavrenty I of Kazan, was the ruling hierarch of the Eparchy of Kazan of the Church of Russia as Archbishop in the sixteenth century, serving from 1568 to 1574.

Life

Little is known of the life of Archbishop Laurence. He was an igumen at the Joseph-Volokolamsk Monastery of which he also served as the abbot from 1566. On February 9, 1568, he was consecrated Archbishop of Kazan. Abp. Laurence apparently returned to Volokolamsk Monastery during his last days. He died on July 13, 1574 and was buried at the Volokolamsk Monastery.
