Metropolitan Sawa (Grutsynyak) ) of Warsaw is the current ruling hierarch of the Church of Poland. He is the eighth hierarch to head the Polish church since it was granted autocephaly by the Patriarch of Constantinople in 1924. As Archbishop of Warsaw and Metropolitan of All Poland, his residence is in Warsaw at the Cathedral of Mary Magdalen Equal to the Apostles.

Life

Metr. Sawa was born on April 15,1938 in Snyatychi, Poland. He was consecrated bishop of Lodz and Poznan on November 25, 1979. He was elected the ruling hierarch of the Church of Poland on May 12, 1998 and enthroned on May 31, 1998.
