History
The first attested bishop of Mithymna was Christodoros in 520. In 640, Mithymna was mentioned in the Ecthesis as an archdiocese. Around 1084, the see was designated a metropolis during the reign of emperor Alexius I Comnenus. In the thirteenth century the Fourth Crusade brought Latin control of the area and based on this the Roman Catholic Church maintains a purely titular see of Mithymna.
