The Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East is an isolated church. It separated from the Orthodox Church after the Council of Ephesus (AD 431).
The Assyrian Church of the East (Nestorian Church) is sometimes considered an Oriental Orthodox Church, although it is not in communion with Oriental Orthodox churches and it has a Nestorian or Nestorian-like Christology that differs from the declaration of the Council of Chalcedon in an opposite way from the Monophysites.
The current Head is His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos-Patriarch.
