Vladimir (secular name Maurice Roman); (Greek)
Ο Βλαντιμίρ, Επίσκοπος της Ιεράς Πόλεως Κλάσης και του νησιού Αγίου Ιουλίου της Αίγινας) is the Bishop of Civitas Classis-Ravenna and St. Julius Island of the Holy Synod of Milan[1]
Life
Vladyka Vladimir (Maurice Roman) was born in Milan in 1962. He is an Archeologist by background, having studied the History of Classical Antiquity, Archeology, Byzantine History and History of the Church. He wrote his dissertation in Byzantine Canon and Civil Law at the Institute of Byzantine History (Dafist) at a prestigious Italian university
As a young boy, he was part of a parish of the Russian Orthodox Church - Moscow Patriarchate [1] directed by Archimandrite Evloghij.
He was tonsured rasophore monk in 1984 than lector, subdeacon - later in 1985 was ordained deacon and priest as Hieromonk (by Bishop Evloghij of Milan), later in 1992 he became Hegumen, in 1993 Kathegumen and in 1995 Archimandrite.
Metropolita Evloghios consecrated Vladika Vladimir as bishop of St. Julius Island (in Orta San Giulio) with Archbishop Vigile of Paris and Bishop Vassilij of Osta.
He was consecrated bishop on 6 December o.s./19 December n.s. 1995, Feast of St. Nicholas in the Cathedral of Milan, by Archbishop Evloghij, Archbishop Vigil of Paris and Bishop Vassilij of Ostia under the jurisdiction of the Autonomous Orthodox Church of Milan, Western Europe and Canada - Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate. Archbishop Lazar (Puhalo) of Ottawa, who knew him in Kiev, sent as member of the Holy Synod of Autonomous Orthodox Church of Milan, Western Europe and Canada (Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate) his agreement for the consecration. Vladyka Vladimir was in the same Holy Synod with Vladyka Lazar (Puhalo) of Ottawa and Vladyka Varlaam (Novakshonoff) of Vancouver, consecrated by Metropolitan Evloghios under his Omophor as the Head of the Autonomous Orthodox Church of Milan, Western Europe and Canada - Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate on 19 September / 2 October 1994 (See the Grammata at the end of the page [2]).
In 2004 he left his mother Church and went to another jurisdiction. He later repented and was readmitted to the Holy Synod of Milan with penance which included a forced retirement. There he remained until June of 2013 as a retired bishop by will of the Holy Synod of Milan. After years of retired life and study, the Holy Synod of Milan reconsidered his position and accepted the request of Vladyka Vladimir to return to the status of an active bishop no longer in forced retirement.
Since June, 2013, he was part of the Holy Synod of Milan serving as "Bishop of St. Julius Island" of Egina (Julius of Novara in Orta San Giulio).
He was a member of the Synod of Milan and is the head of the "Department of Liturgy" and of the "Department of Canon Law".
In Saturday september 1, 2013 (old style)- beginning of the church's years, Bishop Vladmir is promoted to the title of Bishop of Civitas Classis and St. Julius Island.
In Sunday september 2, 2013 (old style), Vladyka Vladimir was promoted to the rank of Archbishop of Classis-Ravenna and St. Julius Island. In November 28th 2013, He was promote as Archbishop and Metropolitan of Ravenna and Classis (Prot. 652/2)
Vladyka Vladimir was responsible for the Holy Synod of Milan's review of academic books of Eastern Canon Law, Byzantine History and is the Head of the DEPARTMENT FOR EXTERNAL CHURCH RELATION of The Holy Synod of Milan.
Lacked the support of the Synod of Milan in promoting the establishment of a Western Exarchate and due to new arrivals in the Synod (bishops who say they have been consecrated from ROCOR in 2001), Metropolitan Volodymir, supported by His Excellency Alessandros di Lidia and His Excellency Anthony of new York, completely dissociated from the new Synod of Milan and established another Synod conforms to the foundation of the Western Exarchate of the Holy Synod of Milan. Actually, Bishop Volodymir is in full Communion with the True Orthodox Church of Greece and the Ukranian Orthodox Church in America. Bishop Volodymir has never receaved any canonical punishment from his Mother Church Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate, on the contrary he he maintains a courteous and respectful relationship with his mother Church. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate sent to him sometime respectful Greetings.
