He was a priest-monk and confessor, born in Rhodes. He lived in a [[cenobitic]] monastery for 51 years. In his 79th year of age he was, as he says, at Messina of Sicily, and at dawn on the [[Sunday of Orthodoxy]] he experienced a majestic vision by which several prophecies were foretold him.</ref>
