Agathangelos (Tampouratzakis) was born in 1929 in the town of Neapoli in the eastern part of Crete. His education included, in addition to theology, the subjects of sociology and law in Paris, France. He entered the [[Holy Orders]] in 1949 when he was [[ordination|ordained]] a [[deacon]]. He was ordained a [[priest]] in 1957.
In 1974, Father Agathangelos was elected Metropolitan of the [[Metropolis of Didymotichon, Orestias and Soufli|Metropolis of Didymoticho and Orestias[[]], a New Lands metropolis in Thrace. In 1986, Bp. Agathangelos was [[enthronement|enthroned]] as Metropolitan of New Symrna.
