His Grace Mitrophan (Kodić) is the Bishop of Eastern America of the Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America under the jurisdiction of the Church of Serbia, a position he has held since 1991.

Life

Bishop Mitrophan was born in 1951 in the village of Ljusa, Sipovo, in Bosna. After he completed his basic education in 1966, he entered the seminary at Monastery Krka, in central Dalmatia, Croatia, from which he graduated in 1971. Having chosen a monastic life, in 1970, he was tonsured a monk, with the name Mitrophan, and ordained a hierodeacon on successive days by Bishop Stefan (Bocа).

Dcn. Mitrophan continued his education at the Theological Faculty in Bucharest, Romania, completing his studies in 1975. After his ordination to the priesthood, he was assigned to the Seminary of the Holy Three Hierarchs in the Monastery Krka in 1977. In 1979, Father Mitrophan passed his professorship exam. In 1980, he was assigned as assistant Rector of the Seminary and raised to the position of Rector in 1987.

In 1987, Fr. Mitrophan was elected to the episcopate by the Assembly of Bishops of the Church of Serbis as Vicar Bishop of Toplica and appointed him assistant to Dr. Sava, Administrator of the Diocese of Midwestern America. Subsequently, he was appointed to the position of administrator of the diocese, a position he remained in until his appointment as Bishop of Eastern America in 1991.

In 1997, Bp. Mitrophan successfully defended his doctoral dissertation at the Theological Faculty of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Belgrade, Serbia, on the theme: The Mystery of Christ According to the Epistles to the Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians of the Holy Apostle Paul. Bishop Mitrophan is Professor of New Testament at the St. Sava School of Theology in Libertyville, Illinois.
