Talk:Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece
Naming of this article
Hi, I think that because many non-Orthodox people will be visiting OrthodoxWiki to understand the way the church is structured, then to have an article with "Genuine" in its title is mis-leading since it implies that the Old Calendar is genuine and the Church of Greece is not (and well debates then follow) ... so, should the name be changed to be on equal level with the Church of Greece to say something like Church of Greece (Old Calendar) to offer a more neautral title ... Genuine could imply that the Church of Greece is not 'genuine' church ... Vasiliki 17:27, March 24, 2008 (PDT)
- Our policy on OrthodoxWiki is to use the names such groups give themselves, unless they are identical to mainstream Orthodox churches. (To use Church of Greece, even with a parenthetical addition, would be more confusing!) In any event, the various articles on these groups ought to make clear in the article body that they're referring to a non-mainstream group.
- Besides that, Church of Greece (Old Calendar) could refer to any of quite a number of bodies. It's best to stick to using their unique names, even if such names are themselves in dispute. —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 20:00, March 24, 2008 (PDT)
