In February 1986, Sergei joined the [[monk]]s at the [[St. Daniel Monastery (Moscow)|Danilov Monastery]] and served an obedience from May 1987 to January 1989, as steward covering Danilov Monastery. Also, during the years 1986 to 1989 he studied in the graduate school. From January 1989 to October 1990 he served an obedience to the assistant governor of the [[monastery]] for the reception of foreign guests.
On [[April 10]], 1986, in the lower [[church]], dedicated to the Holy Virgin, of the Church of the Holy Fathers of the Seven Ecumenical Councils located in St. Daniel Monastery, the [[Archimandrite]] [[Eulogius (Smirnov) of Vladimir and Suzdal|Eulogius (Smirnov)]] [[tonsure]]d Sergei a [[Monastic Ranks|rassophore]] with the name of Paul. Then, on [[May 18]], 1986 at Holy Trinity Cathedral of Danilov Monastery, Metropolitan [[Alexei II (Ridiger) of Moscow|Alexis (Ridiger)]] of Leningrad and Ladoga [[ordination|ordained]] Paul to the [[deacon|diaconate]].
On [[December 26]], 1986, Archimandrite Panteleimon (Dolganova) tonsured Dcn. Paul a [[monk]] with the name Sava in honor of St. Sabbas Storozhevsky of Zvenigorod[http://www.kkovalev.ru/Savva_all_eng.htm] at Danilov Monastery's Holy Trinity Cathedral. On [[January 6]], 1987, Christmas Eve(oc), Father Sava was ordained to the [[priest]]hood by the Metropolitan of Volokolamskoye Yurievsky Pitirim (Nechayev) at the Cathedral of the Resurrection. Then, on [[June 3]], 1987, Fr. Sava was elevated to the rank of [[igumen]] in the Cathedral of the Epiphany by [[Patriarch]] [[Pimen (Izvekov) of Moscow|Pimen (Izvekov)]]. On [[March 17]], 1988, a [[feast day]] of the Danilov Monastery, Fr. Sava was elevated to the rank of archimandrite at Holy Trinity Cathedral by Metropolitan Methodius (Nemtsov) of Voronezh and Lipetsk.
On [[July 16]], 1995, the [[Holy Synod]] elected Archimandrite Sava (Volkov) Bishop of Krasnogorsk, vicar of the Moscow Eparchy and chairman of the Department of the Moscow Patriarchate that supports the Russian Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies, a position in which he served until [[July 17]], 2001.
On [[September 12]], 1995, Archimandrite Sava was [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] Bishop of Krasnogorsk, [[Vicar]] of the Moscow Diocese, at Holy Trinity Cathedral of Danilov Monastery in Moscow. His consecration, which was held at the [[Divine Liturgy]] in celebration of the [[relics]] of Ss. Prince Alexander Nevsky and Prince Daniel of Moscow, was celebrated by a number of hierarchs led by [[Patriarch]] [[Alexei II (Ridiger) of Moscow|Alexius II of Moscow]]. These hierarchs included Metropolitans [[Juvenal (Poyarkov) o of Krutitsy|Juvenal of Krutitsky and Kolomna]] and Methodius of Voronezh and Lipetsk, Archbishops Seraphim of Penza and Kuznetsk, Eulogius of Vladimir and Suzdal and Sergius of Solnechnogorsk a Vicar of the Moscow Diocese, and Bishops Panteleimon of Archangelsk and Murmansk, Victor of Tver and Kashin and Anthony of Krasnoyarsk and the Yenisei, and the Vicars of the Moscow Diocese Bishops Arsenius of Istra, Tikhon of Bronnitsy, Innocent of Dmitrovs, [[Eugene (Reshetnikov) of Vereya|Eugene of Vereyа]] and Alexis of Orekhovo-Zuyevo.
On [[March 5]], 2010, the Holy Synod appointed Bp. Savva as the ruling hierarch of the Diocese of Tiraspol and Dubossarsk, a diocese in Transnistria, a country not recognized by many countries.
