Hi, I am an Orthodox Christian since October 2021. I grew up in a Presbyterian church in Virginia, USA. I was raised by Christian parents with my three younger brothers. After I went to college in New York, I returned to Virginia for a time, but my diligence at church attendance waned. Eventually I moved to Connecticut and met my wife Sara. We occasionally attended church, but neither of us really lived our faith seriously. We got married, and after that we mostly stopped attending church. I joined a small non-denominational church, but something was still lacking. I left that church as well, and began to turn to politics as a source of truth or an organizing principle for the world and my life. I learned economics and libertarian theories, and became an anarchist or agorist. I wanted liberty. As the world rapidly changed in 2018 and 2019 leading into the lockdowns, I encountered Vin Armani (now called Cyprian), who spoke about historical cycles, and encouraged his listeners to become mystics; the age of materialism was ending. In an attempt to become "mystically literate", I found Jonathan Pageau's "Lord of Spirits" podcast and encountered (for I believe the first time) the Orthodox understanding of reality. I listened to the Lord of Spirits podcast as well, and after a while I determined that I needed to actually attend an Orthodox liturgy. A few blocks from my home at the time, was a Ukranian Orthodox church, St Michaels of Woonsocket, RI. I became a catechumen, and in October 2021 I was Chrismated and received my first Eucharist. Today, I am a member at Holy Archangel Michael Romanian Orthodox Church in Southbridge, MA.
