=== The "Jurisdiction" Problem in Hawaii ===
Up until the 1960s, the Russian Orthodox Church held canonical jurisdiction over the Hawaiian Islands. After the 1960s, three seperate Orthodox jurisdictions established themselves in the Islands; Greek, Serbian, and OCA. At one point there were as many as five different Orthodox jurisdictions in Hawaiithe Hawaiian Islands. In 20002003, the short-lived St. Paul the Apostle Antiochian Orthodox Mission was established in Honolulu at Fort Shafter Army Base. The rector of this mission was Fr. Isaiah Gillette, a chaplain with the military. When Fr. Isaiah was transferred to Texas, this mission was disbanded.
