History

Diocese of Alaverdi was formed in the beginning of IX c at the reign of King of Kakheti Kvirike III. The Alaverdi cathedral was built at the place of Alaverdi monastery, founded in VI c. by famous Georgian monk, Ioseb the Alaverdian, one of the 13 Assyrian fathers.
