The St. Sophia community grew, requiring larger facilities. In April 1928, the community acquired the [http://annunciation.org/gallery/displayimage.php?album=26&pid=262#top_display_media Valencia Street Theater], which stood on the earlier site of the pavilion of Woodward's Gardens. George Burns, among others, often mentioned how he got his start at the Valencia Street Theatre, known as the "grandest, most beautiful of the West."
