It was in his defense of Orthodoxy, using his education and knowledge of the West and Latin Church, that Peter is most famous, and also criticized, in the Orthodox Church. He wrote profusely on Orthodoxy, publishing a number of works before his death on December 22, 1646 in Kiev.
He is venerated as a saint by the Churches of Ukraine, Romania, and Poland. His feast day is January 1, but he is also commemorated with other sainted metropolitans of Kiev on October 6.
