Metropolitan Laurus was born Василий Михайлович Шку́рла. I realize that it is met most often on the internet as transliterated Skurla, but the proper phonetic spelling (which is found in certain sources) is Shkurla. The ROCOR website spells it this way in its history of Holy Trinity Monastery: http://www.russianorthodoxchurch.ws/synod/enghistory/enhis_htm.html Alexeykh

Many names are anglicised upon moving to English-speaking countries. This seems to be an example of that. Considering he spent a significant portion of his life in such a country (and was bishop there), it seems right to keep his name as it is conventionally spelt. — by Pιsτévο talk complaints at 00:56, May 3, 2011 (UTC)
