On January 29th, 1996, during the First Chechen war, together with archpriest Sergius Zhigulin he has been grasped by terrorists and was placed in a concentration camp of so-called «Department of state security of the Chechen republic Ichkeria». Under tortures he did not stipulated itself himself and not renounced belief and, as a result, has been shot by them.
