Christ's admonition on prayer to his followers

Prayer
7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling [saying the same words over and over again] like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him [ask only once; anything more than this is pointless (vanity)].

The '''Jesus Prayer''', also called the '''''Prayer of the Heart''''', the '''''Prayer of a Single Thought''''', or simply '''''The Prayer''''', is a short, simple prayer that has been widely used, taught and discussed throughout the history of [[Introduction to Orthodox Christianity|Eastern Christianity]]. The exact words of the prayer have varied, from a simple form such as "Lord, have mercy" to an extended form:
:"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, the sinner."
