Our father among the saints '''Sophronius''' or Sophronios, [[Archbishop]] of [[Cyprus]], was born into a Christian family on Cyprus. His memory is commemorated on [[December 9]].

He lived in the 6th Century. He studied many sciences, but most of all he devoted himself to the reading of [[Holy Scriptures]]. He became so accomplished in piety and good works, that he was granted the gift of [[wonderworker|wonderworking]] by the Lord. Following the death of St Damian, [[bishop]] of Cyprus, St Sophronius was chosen to replace him. As bishop, he proved himself a true father to his flock.
