His Eminence '''Chrysostomos (Tsiter) of Austria''' was the first Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Austria and Exarch of Hungary and Central Europe under the [[jurisdiction]] of the [[Church of Constantinople]]. He led the metropolis from 1963 to 1991.

==Life==
Metr. Chrysostomos was born on [[November 11]], 1903 in Triglia in Asia Minor. He is the nephew of St. [[Chrysostomos (Kalafatis) of Smyrna|Chrysostomos of Smyrna]]. He received his theological education at the [[Theological School of Halki]] and at the University of Athens from which he earned his doctorate in 1924. He taught at a high school in Athens before he entered an ecclesiastical career.

On [[November 6]], 1963, Metr. Chrysostomos was elected to the [[episcopate]] by the [[Holy Synod]] of the [[Church of Constantinople]] as the first metropolitan of the Metropolis of Austria and Exarch of Italy, Switzerland and Hungary, a metropolis that had been established by the Holy Synod on [[February 17]], 1963. Through his efforts, the Metropolis of Austria was recognized as a public corporation by the Austrian government with the publication of Federal Law 229 of [[June 23]], 1967. 

In 1991, Metr. Chrysostomos retired as the ruling hierarch and was succeeded by [[Michael (Staikos) of Austria|Michael (Staikos)]] as metropolitan. Metr, Chrysostomos reposed on [[February 2]], 1995 in Vienna, Austria at an advance age.
