Vasilopita (Greek: Βασιλόπιτα, Vasilópita, lit. 'king-pie' or '(St.) Basil-pie'), is a traditional Greek New Year's Day bread associated with the feast day of St. Basil's day, January 1. It is regionally made from a variety of doughs. The Vasilopita usually will have a coin hidden in the dough before it is baked. Slices of the bread are cut for family members, which act as a blessing on the house.
