Broken ref links

I'm honestly not really sure. Perhaps the best thing to do (if a replacement link cannot be found) is to make a note of some sort indicating the former location of the reference. —[[User:ASDamick|—Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!)]] 13:29, 14 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Internet Archive

Try the Internet Archive cache, which is persistent unlike that of Google: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://saintgeorge.org/news_and_events/church_calendar/saint_of_the_day/05may/may_06_the_prophet_job.php You can then link to one of the saved copies, e.g., http://web.archive.org/web/20040621174903/http://saintgeorge.org/news_and_events/church_calendar/saint_of_the_day/05may/may_06_the_prophet_job.php

Featured article

I'm a bum, I know—I've gotten suddenly quite busy with the beginning again of classes, and so I've been negligent with working through features. Perhaps we should change the feature less often than weekly. I am rather hoping that someone else will contribute to the process, too.  :) —[[User:ASDamick|—Fr. Ezekiel (Kilkis) of Dervis)

wow! how/where did you find his surname? i'd been looking for that for ages! many thanks! oea 22:58, 27 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Thank you!

Dear Magda, thank you for your message and invitation - I definitely do intend to stay and will create an 'about me' page as soon as I can. Right now I'm working on preparations for the exhibition of my icons from October 26-31 and I think I should first learn to use the Editor and more from/about OrthodoxWiki in order to create a page or attempt to edit anyone else's work. Thanks again for your welcoming message and care!

Good Editing

Magda, thanks for the finishing touches you and Rdr Andrew have given to my articles. Even after a couple read throughs, over a couple days, I keep finding things that need changes, additions, etc. So, I relly welcome your changes. They are always an improvement. Wsk 09:08, 21 Oct 2005 (EDT)

RE yesterday's Coolhost.biz worm attack on OrthodoxWiki by Cuca91, Kuza44 and VovaTom

Thank you for watchfulness. The following pages still contain the code and need cleaning: http://www2.orthodoxwiki.org/Special:Search?search=coolhost.biz

God Bless+

The following link might also prove helpful:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Blocking_policy It should also be possible to know the ISP and city/country of the attackers (Cuca91, Kuza44 and VovaTom) based on their IP addresses from OrthodoxWiki server logs. I can help in this if you extract the IPs.

New attack by Tatu64 and Vera1

Please note this one too; they have introduced some apparently obscene sites as hidden code in some OW pages, e.g.,

Big Party

=-). Not sure -- any suggestions? Y'all could come over to my place in Chicago -- we could talk wiki and have some cozy hot apple cider! Fr. John

Churches in Beirut

Well, I have no idea, then. I've now been told that this church is Antiochian Orthodox, Armenian, and Maronite. Whom shall I believe? —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 11:14, November 7, 2005 (CST)

Quick q

Hey Magda, are you guys planning to stay in GOARCH? Fr. John

Is he graduating in the Spring? How big is the diocese? Maybe you'll end up in Chicago :-). Fr. John
Just 'cause I'm in Chicago. About goarch, I was just curious... Fr. John

Successions

Thanks for the tip on the Canadians. Looking through the various bishop articles I realized that the succession boxes weren't being followed consistently. That is not all the bishop's sees were being addressed. But, finding all the information can be difficult. I've been also reviewing the wanted "articles" and am finding that some of these could go away with good linking. Hopefully I can get some "corrected." Thanks again. ````

Saint commemorations

All I know is what's in the article. Sorry.  :/ —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 18:34, November 13, 2005 (CST)

Logo Contest Submissions

Dear Magda,

Please thank your friend for his (her?) logo submissions. Would you mind asking if they'd be willing to donate them, especially #2 for possible use as an OrthodoxWiki link buttons? If so, it would be great if they could send along a layered psd or png to help us scale it down or make minor adjustments as needed.

Thanks, Fr. John 14:38, November 16, 2005 (CST)

Interwiki

Hi Magda,

Just a note to say that I've added a page that viewing (and, with special permissions, editing) of the Interwiki table which manages InterWiki links. It can be viewed at Special:Interwiki (see also Help:InterWiki links. Fr. John 12:45, November 21, 2005 (CST)

Hi again, Sure we could get rid of them. Let's be slightly conservative, and e.g. keep the ones for Google. We can prune the really irrelevant ones, no problem. It definitely doesn't need to be a high priority project, but it would make it easier for us to use InterWikis effectively if there's not a lot of clutter. Thanks! Fr. John

Buzzzzz

That's a great find, Magda, thanks! And it's got an RSS feed! Fr. John

Linkbuttons

Magda, you've been discovered! Why not put these linkbuttons on the OrthodoxWiki:Link_buttons page?

P.S. I really like this picture.

Fr. John

Sure, why not? People have all kinds of different requirements for linkbuttons and banner sizes. Maybe we should think about commissioning real "banners" for OrthodoxWiki - I'm not sure which sites run these, but it's definitely worth looking into a good next step in terms of fostering a graphic identity. Fr. John

Re: Images

Hi Magda, it's probably that refresh problem I mentioned. The page has to be re-saved to show changes -- I dunno. Also, when an image is added to a category, the category listing automatically shows a thumbnail of the image. Pretty cool! Fr. John

Great work Magda! Thanks for your help on the image categorization. Fr. John 21:19, November 26, 2005 (CST)
Hi Magda, I'm processing the cat now and Images of Icons will be deleted. Wikimedia commons has tons of icons, so better they go simply in "Icons." I'm clearing house. About the other thing, I mean let's systematically work through the relevant categories on the Commons -- just write down which one(s) you've already been through so we don't repeat it, and do one at a time so we don't miss stuff. Thanks! Fr. John
Hmm... we should think this out. Maybe we could break the category down a bit into "Festal Icons". "Icons of Saints", etc. How does that sound? Otherwise just stick them into Category:Icon and we'll get to them later. We had another edit conflict on the photo gall page - that's always a joy :-) (well, really, to see that other people are actively engaged too). I'm going to bed! God bless, Fr. John
Hi Magda, no, let's not do that for now -- it's enough that their in the one category -- especially when that category is made up almost entirely of icons. — FrJohn (talk)
Sure, let's put them in Uncategorized -- it makes it easy to go through and see which ones can be fitted into categories later on. I just created Category:Maps and Category:Logos though for the images you mentioned and some others too. Fr. John
Magda, is that a trick question? Atallah%20Hanna.jpg and "Atallah Hanna.jpg" and Atallah_Hanna.jpg all link to the same photo.
Not sure what to say -- I'll look into this later. P.S. I've put all user pics into Category:User Images instead of Category:Uncategorized Images. Thanks!
I've also created a template for vandalbots - {{vandbot}} - and some other user templates

Ghost images

Methinks the culprit is the "&" in the name. In any event, I simply downloaded the pics, then re-uploaded them with new names and changed the article that links to the first one. The second pic doesn't seem to be being used anywhere, though if we ever do a Church of Estonia article, it may get included. —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 18:44, November 26, 2005 (CST)

I'm not sure about the copyright issue, either, but I'm willing to put my money on "fair use." —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 18:53, November 26, 2005 (CST)
Regarding deleting, I "cheated" and looked at the "diff" page from User:Athpeck's list of contributions. —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 18:54, November 26, 2005 (CST)

Vandalbot Template

Hi Magda, what do you think -- should we mark the vandalbots with Template:Vandalbot, or is that giving them too much credit? I guess we can pretty much identify them from the blocklist?

More image stuff

Hi Magda,

I think those are both very good suggestions -- go fot it! Thanks, — FrJohn (talk)

List of parishes in Texas (USA)

You go girl! I've started a couple of these (Georgia and Alabama). Compared to all your calendar work, this kind of search and collect routine seems right up your alley. I wish I could produce better maps but am fairly content with the ones I have now. I hope to create ones for all the dioceses of all the jurisdictions. Joe

I put links to the relevant search results for a given state (e.g. Alabama). This way when someone goes to check/update the listing they can just click through once. This might not be a good idea. I was just going for convenience. Here is the list I use:

Joe 30 Nov 2005

I don't know about a parish directories page. I'll have to let that simmer. I think the Ukranian link was the same, but thanks for the Serbian link. Google Maps is a good idea, that's what I was going to do! Joe 30 Nov 2005

Belarusians

I have no idea. I haven't heard anything. —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 05:02, November 30, 2005 (CST)

Re: Favicon

Yeah, something weird was going on. I upgraded the software yestered (to 1.5.2) and I think it changed the favicon path in one of the template files. Anyway, it should be fixed now -- try "refresh" or deleting the browser cache. Thanks also for your answer this morning. You know we had an editing conflict then too? But your answer in the end was much better than mine! You'd be amazed by how many general information questions like that I get, as if I I'm supposed to know everything since I run this site! I'm suprised that so many people don't know how to Google for information. — FrJohn (talk)

Hmm... maybe we should start an OrthodoxWiki:Help desk or an OrthodoxWiki:Reference desk like they have on Wikipedia: here and here. That would give a central place for these types of research questions. Fr. John

Cats

Putting [[Category:Jurisdictions|Rome]] in the Church of Rome articles makes it so that the article is listed in the category alphabetically by "Rome" instead of by "Church of Rome." Take a close look at the cat and see what I mean. —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 15:55, November 30, 2005 (CST)

Re:

Wow! Great answer, good job. Thanks, — FrJohn (talk)

Anastasios

D'oh!! That's what I get for jumping too fast. I never get to do those welcome pages and when I saw a new user, I got all excited and accidentally got the wrong page. :-) Thanks for the fix. —Dcn. David talk contribs 15:17, December 2, 2005 (CST)

:-) Got it right this time. —Dcn. David talk contribs 15:42, December 2, 2005 (CST)

Abp. Kiprian

Thanks. Magda. I knew you or Dcn. Andrew would have the day of his death. Wsk 18:52, December 5, 2005 (CST)

Chicago

Hi Magda,

Do the other states simply go by an alphabetical listing of cities? If so, I think that's good for Illinois. I envision the Chicago-area Orthodox Portal as a different, complementary project. — FrJohn (talk)

I'll work on this later Magda, but basically the churches listed in the Portal are around Chicago. About GoogleMaps, I'm glad you guys would be up for putting it to good use. I encountered some bugs when I tried to install the extension, and I'm not sure how to work them out yet. When I get a chance, I'll work on it, but it won't be immediately! I'll let you know when I get things working. Thanks. — FrJohn (talk)
