Welcome to OrthodoxWiki!

Hello, Alexander p, and welcome to OrthodoxWiki!

Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Please note that OrthodoxWiki is always in development, so not everything works quite right yet. You can help, though!

OrthodoxWiki is a community-edited encyclopedia of Orthodox Christianity. Articles are created and edited by our members, and so everything that we do here is subject to review and revision. The result is a true consensus product, with every interested editor contributing his own knowledge and writing skills. As such, when you feel that criticism of an article is warranted, we encourage you to join in and fix it! Don't worry about breaking anything or doing something wrong—the other editors here are happy to jump in and help you learn.

Hi, there, Alexander. Welcome aboard.

I noticed that you uploaded a couple image files today. You need to tag them appropriately so that their sources can be tracked. --Rdr. Andrew 00:30, 25 Jan 2005 (CST)

Hi, Andrew.

But I am somewhat puzzled over that appropriate tagging. How should I do it?

When you upload the image, there is a "summary" box in which you can put the tags. After that, though, you can go to the description page for the image (for instance, by clicking on the image in your entry on Nicholas of Japan), then clicking the "edit" tab at the top. Here are some example tags:
{{skete.com}} for images from skete.com
{{pd}} for images in the public doman
{{gfdl}} for images released under the GNU Free Documentation License
{{unverified}} for images of unknown source
{{limited}} for images with a copyright and limited license (you'll also need to include a copyright notice along with that tag)
We still need to make a "help" page detailing these licenses -- forgive me for not getting to that yet.

Addendum: I've created a rough Help:Image licenses page to help you out. --Rdr. Andrew

Thank you for your contributions and welcome to OrthodoxWiki! Fr. John

I am very glad to take part in your very interesting web-project, and I wish I could make some more contributions. But unfortunately I can hardly make it, because English is not my native language, and I can't yet write it adequately.

As for the article I uploaded. Some years ago we (my wife and I) were asked to translate from Russian several textes about Russian Saints and icons. But the only one text, being emended by a professiaonal translator, was, I think, good enough — the Life of St. Nicholas of Japan.

As for the other ones, they are only capable of improvement. But I hope to make them a little bit better (at least than they are) and maybe useful for OrthodoxWiki.

Thank you for your site, and greetings from Russia! -- Alexander P.

That's great! If you post something, we can help edit your English. If you want, we could also launch a Russian-language version of OrthodoxWiki. God bless, Fr. John
