I'm a reference librarian at a public college in upstate NY. I wasn't raised in a religious home, but after many years (it's a long story!) I became a Christian in 1990 and was baptised in a Methodist church. I became quite active, eventually serving for 5 years as a "local pastor," a sort of lay minister. In 2002 my family and I left the Methodist church for Orthodoxy, specifically the OCA. Again, a long story, but I am very glad to be where I am now and hope to learn much from this site, and perhaps to make some contribution myself.
The "Guthlac" in my name is the saint's name I took at chrismation. Guthlac was a very well known saint in England in Anglo-Saxon times, and it so happens his hermitage, and the abbey subsequently built there, are in the town my ancestors emigrated from to the U.S. in the early 1800s.
