Theologos (Chrysanthakopoulos) of Brazzaville

Archimandrite Theologos (Chrysanthakopoulos) of Brazzaville is a missionary monastic in sub-Saharan Africa and the Patriarchal Vicar of the Diocese of Brazzaville and Gabon under the jurisdiction of the Church of Alexandria.

Life

Archimandrite Theologos was born Dimitrios Chrysanthakopoulos in Patras, Greece in 1951. After completing his secondary eduction Dimitrios entered the National Technical University of Athens (Greek: Εθνικό Μετσόβιο Πολυτεχνείο - Ethniko Metsovio Polytechnio) from which he graduated with a degree in Architecture. From 1975 to 1977 he continued his post graduate education in Paris, France studying monument restoration. He is fluent in French, English, and Albanian.

In 1980, he received a tonsure as a monk and took up residence at Mount Athos. In 2004, Archimandrite Theologos was assigned the responsibility for the mission in Congo Brazzaville under the jurisdiction of the Church of Alexandria. In 2005, the Church of Alexandria through its Archdiocese of Central Africa initiated establishment of the University of St. Athanasius the Athonite in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Archim. Theologos designed the Church of St. Athanasios the Athonite which occupies a central position in the university complex. He also taught classes at the university concerning Church Building and Iconography.

On October 7, 2010, the Holy Synod of the Church of Alexandria established the Diocese of Brazzaville and Gabon and named Archim. Theologos the Patriarchal Vicar of Brazzaville. Archim. Theologos has also been overseeing the establishment of a large missionary center in the city of Pointe Noire that includes churches, offices, hostels, halls for meetings and studying catechism, and a radio station.
