Sources

The scope is broad enough, I think. In essence, this is all about the relationship between God and Man. It is the definition of Orthodoxy. The easy part is getting the materials collated. The hard part is not to tangent.

As much as I love Met. Hierotheos' corpus, I must confess that Fr. Joseph Allen's "Inner Way: Toward A Rebirth of Eastern Christian Spiritual Direction" is probably the better starting point for introducing this all-encompassing subject.

Also in the works for sources are St. Theophan the Recluse, Igumen Chariton of Valamo's "The Art of Prayer," whatever I can get my hands on by Met. Anthony Bloom, "The Unseen Warfare," and of course Ss. Gregory Palamas, Symeon the New Theologian, Photius, Mark of Ephesus, Abba Dorotheos, and the Philokalia.

Eds and sysops, please comment.

Fr. Joseph never ceases to amaze me! I wonder what his reaction might be if I were to tell him when I see him in a few weeks that he's being used as a source.  :) In any event, of those things I've read, they all seem quite on track to me. —Dcn. Andrew talk random contribs 18:04, 15 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Please ask him not only if he'd mind, but I'd appreciate an address where I can formally request permission.

Well, as a former academic, I'm sure he wouldn't mind. I have to admit that I'd feel a tad uncomfortable asking about something like that, as I don't really know him except as the administrator for the Antiochian House of Studies program. In any event, here's some contact info that might well lead to him: http://www.antiochian.org/Education/ahs_top.htm
