Commemoration Day

We know that the Saint died on June 11, 1961. However, I have noticed on his biography at the homepage of the Cathedral of St John the Baptist that they list the commemoration day as: May 29/June 11 -- June 11th being Old Style...

...would his feast day therefore be May 29th New Style, or, would it remain on June 11th, the actual date of his death? I would think it should stay June 11th. Cheers, Angellight 888 00:29, July 3, 2010 (UTC)

I think your proposition of June 11 as "new style" is correct. If June 11, 1961 were the current civil calendar date for his death, then June 11 is a new style date and the date on the old civil, Julian, calendar would be 13 day behind - May 29. If June 11, 1961 is on the old civil, Julian, calendar, then the current civil calendar would be 13 days ahead, June 24. Since we use the current civil calendar in our daily use, the question, to me, come as - is the source for his death recording on the new or old civil calendar! Given the stated commemoration of May29/June 11, my take is that he died on June 11 on the new civil calendar (new style) which on the old civil calendar is May 29 (old style).
