Is this Eastern Orthodox?

-- Vasiliki 21:31, January 30, 2008 (PST)

If you are asking what the point is of having articles on other Christian denominations, sects, etc., on Orthodox Wiki, I don't think they belong here. I see this site as a place for people to learn about Orthodoxy, not about all the other religions with which we differ. --Fr Lev 06:16, January 31, 2008 (PST)

It's always been something of a difficult subject here, but I do think that there is value in articles critiquing various sects from an Orthodox Christian point of view. The encyclopedic format makes that harder, though, except in the case of articles which are primarily historical, e.g., something on the relations between Rome and Orthodoxy, etc.
I'm very much of the opinion that articles on other religions should be limited to direct relations between them and the Orthodox Church. —Fr. Andrew talk contribs 06:29, January 31, 2008 (PST)
Since I first wrote this article, I have had some second thoughts about its appropriatness myself. I can understand having the main article on Mormonism, since mainline (Utah or LDS) Mormonism is rapidly becoming a major world religion; and thus, in my humble opinion at least, there might be a place in this encyclopedia for an article comparing it to Orthodoxy. I did not write that article originally, but I did expand it significantly both to correct some errors in the original and to bring out more of a direct comparison between it and the Orthodox Faith (especially since they are so aggressive in their missionary efforts, which are aimed at Orthodox as well as other Christians).
This article, on the other hand, was concerned with a much smaller group, one that is not nearly as aggressive in their missionary efforts, and thus I can see your concern. Not that you would need my permission, of course, but please do feel free to delete it, and/or the Mormonism article, as well, entirely if you think that would be best for your readers! Please pray for us! -- Jimjenk 17:14, January 31, 2008 (PST)
